Letter from the President
Dear Friends of TSYLF,
When we started Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation, we knew we wanted to have a great impact on emerging and working hospitality professionals. Through scholarships and grants, we supported the academic aspirations of those in the industry. Everything was moving forward until March of 2020 when the world seemed to stop and hold its breath. Challenging times call for clear thinking, purpose-driven priorities, and a focus on community. Our board acted quickly and rose to the occasion.
This year, the TSYLF Board of Directors:
· Created a $200,000 Hospitality Relief Grant fund to assist those who were financially impacted by COVID-19.
· Awarded 29 education scholarships and certification grants.
We saw many hospitality associations work together this year to create a sense of community when it was needed the most. Some struggled more than others to maintain annual fees and we offered more membership grants in response so that these communities could continue.
This year our board welcomed a new director Donna Murray. Donna has been a great supporter of the foundation for years and we welcome her with open arms. We also bid a fond farewell to board member Chase Taylor-Cobb this year. It has been an honor to work with Chase and we all wish him the best. To all of you who gave your time and resources this year to help support the hospitality industry, thank you. We are stronger together.
