The Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation (TSYLF) appreciates the importance of continuing your professional education and advancement through certification. Hospitality certifications increase the value of professionals to their employers, shows proof of a comprehensive body of knowledge, and promotes industry standards, practices, and ethics.
This is not a reimbursement program. We pay your exam fees up to $750!
Scholarships are for first-time testing only. TSYLF does not pay application fees, retesting, or recertification fees.
The exam certification must be offered by a professional, nonprofit, hospitality-related association that can be validated by GuideStar.org or other reputable sources.
You must be 21 years of age & currently or previously employed in the hospitality industry.
Certification scholarship recipients must reside in the United States.

Document and application requirements (include full names of certifications, courses, and institutions. Refrain from solely using initials or acronyms)
Your completed application must include:2 Short essay responses within the application form
Resume
Acceptance letter or registration invoice from the certifying institution you are applying to
Digital photo/headshot in jpeg or png format with a neutral or professional background and avoid “selfies.”
Letter of recommendation (to be sent separately, see details below)
A letter of recommendation/support must be submitted from a current or former manager, instructor, or peer who can attest to your commitment to the hospitality industry. The letter must be on official letterhead include complete contact information of the referrer and be sent separately by clicking on the tab below:
Please note: Incomplete applications will not be submitted for review and are not eligible to receive funding from the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation until all the requested documents or application requirements are completed and submitted before the application deadline. Documents or submissions received after the stated due date will not be accepted for that application quarter. Applicants can apply again with a new, complete application the following quarter.
